About Rabbi Stein

Rabbi Stephen Stein is one of the Rabbis at Temple Shalom of Woodbury, New York.

Rabbi stein is an ordained Rabbi and Cantor. His rabbinical degree (smicha) is from Beth Midrash Lerabonim –  Rabbinical Academy of America.  In addition, he was a board member of the American Association of Rabbis.(AAR) and a graduate of Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of religion.

In 2005, Rabbi Stein was awarded a Doctor of Music honoris causa from Hebrew Union college – Jewish institute of Religion. Up until 1998, he had held the position of Cantor at Huntington Jewish Center.  Thereafter, he accepted a position at Temple Beth Torah, in Melville, New York. At Temple Beth Torah, he led the chanting of religious services, taught the B’nai Mitzvah students, supervised the choir, taught adult education, read the Torah and provided ministerial services until 2011.

Additionally, Rabbi Stein completed a Masters in Music Education at Long Island University, C.W.Post College and became certified as a teacher of Special Education.  He provided music therapy and taught music to children with handicapping conditions at the Board of Cooperative Education in the Second Supervisory District (BOCES 2). During this time he was presented with an award for outstanding teaching.

Throughout his distinguished career, Stephen has been providing ministerial services for wedding couples, Bar / Bat Mitzvah students, Baby Naming’s, Unveiling’s,  Funerals, etc.
